Enrollment FAQ

Who can attend TVCS?

As a charter school, TVCS is open to all California school-age children (TK-8).

Why is there an application process if TVCS is a public school?

Since we are a charter school, all families must fill out an application form to request enrollment at TVCS.

How are students admitted to the school?

TVCS uses a lottery to randomly select students for any grade level that has open seats for the following school year (SY). If a grade level has no open seats, the lottery is used to create a randomized waitlist for the following SY.

How old must my child be to be admitted into TK or Kindergarten?

In 2023–24, children are eligible for TK if they turn 5 between September 2 and April 2*,
In 2024–25, children are eligible for TK if they turn 5 between September 2 and June 2*,
In 2025–26, children who will have their fourth birthday by September 1* of the school year.

Kindergarten students are eligible if they turn five years old on or before September 1st of the current school year.

When will the lottery take place?

The lottery for the 2024-2025 SY will take place on February 22nd.

How many openings does the school anticipate?

TVCS anticipates approximately 20 openings in Transitional Kindergarten and a limited number of openings in all other grades. These numbers will be updated once we conduct our “Intent to Return” survey for current students.

Do siblings of current students get special consideration in admissions?

Yes. Enrollment preference is given to applicants whose siblings are already enrolled at the school. When a lottery takes place, siblings are admitted first, if space is available.

What is the average class size?

The maximum classroom size varies from grade to grade.

TK = 20 students

Kindergarten = 24 students

1st - 3rd = 26 students

4th - 8th = 30 students

Does TVCS have a full-day TK and Kindergarten?

2023-2024 school year, both TK and Kindergarten are full-day.

2024-2025 school year, TK will be AM/PM and Kindergarten is full-day.

Does the school provide transportation?

Unfortunately, no.

Does TVCS have an after-school program?

TVCS does not currently offer after-school care or a traditional after-school program. We do offer after-school tutoring in reading and math (middle school) for needs-based identified students.

What types of educational programs does TVCS offer?

  • TVCS hopes for parents to be involved on- and off-campus including field trips, in-class help, take-home prep work, Science and Art lab help, additional supervision at recess and lunch, small group work, and multiple opportunities for celebrations and special events.
  • TVCS has a strong social and emotional learning program, where learning in a caring community is essential.
  • TVCS also offers vibrant visual arts, science lab, performing arts, computer science (grades 1-5), dance, and physical education programs called “specials,” in which all students participate on a weekly basis (Science Lab meets every other week in some grade levels.)

Is the school currently enrolling for 2023-2024?

We currently have openings in a few grade levels. Please call the office to check which grades have openings. (951) 294-6775

Does submitting an enrollment interest form guarantee my child will be admitted?

No. A lottery will be conducted for all applications completed by the Open Enrollment Lottery Window. After the Open Enrollment Lottery Window, we will have rolling admissions, either filling available student spaces or adding to a waitlist on a first-come, first-served basis.

Do I need to submit a form if I have more than one child I wish to enroll?
Yes. Please submit a form for each child, even if they are siblings.

My child currently attends TVCS. Do I still need to submit an enrollment interest form?

No. TVCS will send out an “Intent to Return” form through Aeries. The school will give preference to students currently enrolled who wish to return. Forms will be sent to primary parent email addresses associated with the enrolled student.

My child currently attends TVCS. What happens if I don’t submit the Intent to Return form by the due date?

Your child will be admitted if space is available, or will be placed on the waiting list. We cannot guarantee re-enrollment without a completed Intent to Return form.

Does the school admit students based on grades or other criteria?

No. TVCS is open to any student who resides in California and we do not discriminate based on race, creed, color, religion, disability, gender, nationality, or any other reason.

How much does it cost to attend the school?

TVCS is a free, public charter school. There is no fee for admission.

When do I submit my registration paperwork?

We will release the online registration in July to be completed via Aeries. Every student must have updated online registration each year.
