Happy Thursday 7th Grade Families,

With the Reubeen H. Fleet Science Center field trip tomorrow I decided to send out our weekly wrap-up today for our 7th grade students today. This week we have had a strong focus on conquering the last geography assessment of the year! Students did extremely well on this assessment. I am very impressed with their hard work! We also focused on getting detail on the Aztec and Mayan civilizations in Meso-America. Students should have a lot to share with you with what they have learned about both civilizations!

Next week is technically finals week for all 7th and 8th grade students. However, our social science class will be wrapping-up with a regular unit assessment on Friday. Due to grades being due the following Monday there will be NO RETEST opportunities. We will have a couple more days to prep for the assessment however I would highly suggest students begin working on studying as soon as possible.

What students should be working on this weekend:

Due Monday, May 22: Aztec and Mayan row of their comparison matrix
Due Tuesday, May 23: Language of Discipline fordable for American civilizations

Happy Friday 7th Grade Families!

The 7th grade students started off with participating in their annual track meet! We did not have ELA or social science due to this on Monday.

We then took a moment to reflect on the class. Students looked at where they were in social science and made goals on where they would like to be. We discussed the last few assessments we will have to finish this school year. These will include Medieval America: Maya, Inca, and Aztecs and the Americas political and physical geography.

Tuesday through Friday we began both identifying key political and physical features of the Americas and exploring the three great civilizations of medieval America.

What students have coming-up next week:
North and South America political and physical geography assessment: Wednesday, May 17.

Students should be studying for the assessment this weekend.

Thank you for all you do! Have a wonderful weekend,

Ms. Bronicki

Another weekly-wrap!

We are officially done with state testing for Math and ELA. Students will be back to the normal schedule next week.

This week in social science students explored what it meant to be a Samurai! Students presented their skits on Samurai training for example the mental, spiritual, and physical training they would go through in order to be a part of the Warrior class. We then had a review day to prepare for taking the level C assessment. If students scored below 55 points on their level C they have been asked to create flash cards and retake the assessment. They will have a retake THIS MONDAY. Please encourage your student to prepare for this if their score was below a 55, ask them what they scored tonight :-).

Students are now creating, developing, and making their level A project. Students were able to pick from a menu of opitions on what project that would be working on. Some are creating a board game and others might be writing a rap. The requirements are that students use 18-24 vocabulary words and answer 2 of the 3 essential questions in their project. If you or your student has a question please email me. All projects are due Monday, May 8.

Happy Friday Families!

This week was a crazy week with our state testing with a bizarre schedule but the students did awesome with testing and with being flexible with their schedule.

In social studies students finished the ultimate matching game, where students practiced finding cultural elements that either came from India, China, or Korea to help form Japan's cultural identify. In the middle of the week we learned about the Golden Age of Japan, the Heian Period and one of the world's first novels the "Tale of Genji." Today students were very excited to start preparing for skits that they will perform on Monday about the training of a samurai.

Students will have their level C (Vocab test) assessment next Thursday. Students should be reviewing the language of discipline throughout the weekend and into next week.

Thanks for all the support and hope to see some of you at the play!

Welcome back families from spring break!

Students are getting back into their studies without a hitch. This week students were able to GChat with 2 classrooms back in Indiana! I coordinated a digital activity with my former colleague from Discovery Middle School in Indiana. Over spring break he traveled with a group of students to China. Our class played Kahoot with the other classes then he took questions from my students. Students learned more about the culture of modern day China! Ask your student about the day!

We also began looking at how Medieval Japan was influenced by China, Korea, and India as they developed their culture. Students are now competing in a matching game challenge to complete their reading notes.

What students could be working on this weekend:

ALL students should be spending at least 15-20 minutes on completing their anchor activity (DUE 4-21) which is to create flash cards, a Quizlet, foldable, word web, or Frayer models on the vocabulary in the unit.

IF students don't have at least 2 sections of their reading notes completed our student should be finishing this by Monday.

IF your student scored below a 75% on the East Asian political or physical geography assessment they should begin to study for this using the Quizlet. The retake will be on Thursday, April 20.

Thank you for all you do!

Enjoy your holiday weekend,

Happy Saint Patrick's Day 7th Grade Families!

A quick reminder! We are still short drivers for the trip to the Getty next week. Please help the trip out if you can! Students would love this opportunity to visit the Getty.

This week in social studies students were able to show what they had learned about Imperial China by identify key vocabulary in a fill-in the blank and matching level C assessments. Students that scored poorly had lunch opportunities Tuesday through Friday to retake this position of the assessment.

Later in the week students participated in their first Socratic seminar in social studies. They discussed in an academic fashion why Imperial China's government and economy changed and developed and what the effect of foreigners were on China. I was extremely impressed with their dialogue! Students received their scores back today on this assessment.

NEXT WEEK! Students reviewed with me all week the expectations of class next week. I will have a guest teacher in my classroom while I am on the East Coast trip with TVCS. Students in the classroom will be working on Asian geography throughout the week and will be having an assessment on Friday, March 24. I will attach this week's and next week's agenda below as well as the anchor packet they will be working on next week.

Please feel free to email me with questions, concerns, or glows about the class.

Thank you for sharing your awesome students!

Have a wonderful spring break!

Students will be begin their presentations today and conclude on Monday, March 6.

Students also have been given the opportunity to retake their West Africa assessment. These opportunities opened on Monday, Feb. 27th and will conclude on Monday, March 6. These are being taken at lunch. If your child is unhappy with their comic strip score this would be a great way for them to gain more points. They do have to complete the learning contract in order to retake the assessment.

What your child could be doing this weekend:
-Studying the Imperial China Quizlet
-Studying for their retake on West Africa (if they want to take advantage of this opportunity)

This semester is flying by! Students will sent home with their progress reports in 2 weeks. Plus we are officially only four weeks away from spring break!

Last week we had wonderful guest speakers, Mr. and Mrs. Onyia, come speak to both 7th grade classes about their life in Nigeria. Students learned about the physical environment, culture, government, currency, and population of the country.  Students also received their scores back on their comic strip on the Trans-Saharan trade route last Monday. We will be discussing how they can improve their scores today.

After our great guest speakers, students delved into learning about Imperial China. We began the unit with an experiential activity where students learned about the different ways China ran their government. This week we have been becoming experts on one of the following dynasties: Song, Tang, Yuan, and Ming. Students have been using multiple resources to research their given dynasty in government, economy, geography, social structure, and religion.

What students should be doing this weekend:

Happy Friday 7th grade parents!

This week was an exciting introduction to Africa in the Medieval era. On Tuesday students participated in an experiential activity where students acted as either traders from North Africa, gold minders from Wangara, salt miners from Taghaza, or government officials in Ghana.  Students were able to see as they acted out the Trans-Saharan trade route that Ghana was able to gain it's wealth through it's control of the trade route. Thursday and Friday we began reading chapter 13 and completing the reading notes. Students should have the reading notes finished for Monday.

Students this week also focused on the political and physical geography of Africa. We practiced using choral response, Quizlet, flashcards, and a student created map. Students will be taking their assessment on Tuesday, January 31st. Students have been logging the time they study for this since Monday. They are expected to have studied 5 days between last Monday and the assessment.

Happy Rainy Friday,

This week the 7th grade revisited their brochure project and jumped into identifying political and physical geography of Africa.

The African map for both political and physical geography is an anchor activity. This means that  students will continue working on this throughout the new unit.

The 7th grade students are continuing to work on their brochures. Many students did not go through the editing process when they turned-in their products last Friday. This week we talked about the importance of editing, revising, and why rough drafts help us develop our thoughts. Many students are also working on making sure they are not plagiarizing by both rewording parts of their brochure and adding in-text citation using MLA format. Students will be turning in their rough draft, editing sheets, and final draft this Monday.

I encourage all students to email me if they are in need of any help polishing-up their brochure this weekend.

Thank you for your support,

Happy Friday!

Today students turned-in their brochures on the Arabian peninsula during the Medieval Era! I am very excited to be taking a look at them this weekend. I can tell students worked very hard on showing all that they learned and put in their best effort.

This week be began looking at some bigger concepts that are important in understanding history and culture. We explored the words government, economy, and supply and demand. Students related what they were learning in our class with their ELA class. We had academic dialogues about the world's problems and how authors find inspiration in our own world to write about utopias and dystopias.

By the end of the week we began working on the geography of Africa.

What students could be working on this weekend:
-Reviewing their Frayer models on government, economy, and supply and demand
-Continuing working on their Africa maps

Only IF they did NOT turn-in their brochure today, that should be top priority this weekend.

Thank you for all of your support!

Happy New Year and New Semester!

The 7th grade students had a smooth transition back into school this week. In social studies we worked on a travel brochure to the Golden Age of Islam during the medieval era. Students focused on showing what they had learned about the Muslim contributions and how other civilizations were affected by the inventions and innovations made during this time. The last day to work on this brochure was in class today. The final draft is due by Friday, January 13th.

What students should be working on this weekend:
  • Students should be editing and may be asking you to edit their travel brochure before moving on to their final draft.
  • Students should be beginning their final draft of the brochure. The final draft can be completed by hand or on the computer.
Reminder for 7th grade:

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!⛄☕

Can you believe we are already half way through the year! I am so incredibly thankful for being welcomed into the TVCS family. It has been an absolute pleasure interacting and teaching your children. I can't wait to see what the next half of the year brings!

The semester is over which does mean teachers will be finalizing their grades over break. The 7th grade students do not have anything new that I need to add however I do have a handful of retests on Islam that I will be grading and changing in the gradebook over break.

This week students have working on learning about what contributions the Golden Age of the Islamic Empire gave to the world. We did this through a gallery walk. When we return students will be finishing the creation of a brochure advertising taking a trip in time back to the Golden age. Many students were overwhelmed with some other class work and did not speed much time on their brochure. They will be in a much better place if they have their rough draft done for when they come back.

I am wishing all of you a wonderful break full of memories and relaxation!

Gratefully,
Angela Bronicki

If students scored below a 75% I am asking them to retake the test next week. All students are allowed to retest if the would like to improve their score. All 7th grade reflected on their assessment today, please ask your child to share their assessment.
