Meet the Elements Project

The time has come for our studies on Chemistry, and we begin with the periodic table!  This is my favorite project through the year.  You will research an element and make a visual representation of its uses, history, and structure on a cereal box.  We will put these together to form a periodic table on our classroom wall.  The directions are attached.  Have fun!

Assignment

Space, Astronomy, and the Solar System Test

We will conclude our unit this week and will be taking our test on Friday.  Due to the heavy load of work and tests this week, this unit will be a vocabulary test only.  You will also have to draw/label the phases of the moon.

Begin studying on Quizlet now for the test Friday!

Due:

Assignment

Well, we are heading into our Space and Astronomy Unit at light speed.  It is always fun to see how the students respond to the mind bending concepts of distances in space, size of stars, fusion, the Mars mission and many other concepts.    Once we finish our Space Unit we will be heading into Chemistry for the remainder of the year. The students will complete an Element Project, participate in many chemistry labs, and we will finish the year with the Wax Museum.

Due:

Assignment

Hope you all had a wonderfully restful Thanksgiving break!  We just completed a vocabulary test on our Magnetism and Electricity unit.  Today we began our study on Waves, Sound, and Light.  My hope is to complete this unit and possibly a quick Astronomy unit before Christmas break. Upon returning we will head into Chemistry for the remainder of the year.

Hey Parents!

Just sending out a reminder that test corrections are due tomorrow for both 7th and 8th grade.  (Unless your student took the test later.)  In addition, the first portion of the 8th grade Rube Goldberg project is due tomorrow as well.  If any of the students should need it, there is a copy of the research questions on Google Classroom from last week when it was assigned.

I am also attaching a copy of the project.  Included are the directions, research assignment, blueprint assignment, and sample video.  Have fun!

Fluid ForcesTest:  Coming Soon 10/20

The students have been studying and participating in demonstrations regarding fluid forces this past week.  Thursday they will be watching the impact of atmospheric pressure while conducting a can crush, experimenting with Bernoulli's Principle, proving Archimedes' Principle, and playing around with Pascal's Principle.  Wow! That's a lot of principles!  We will wrap up our studies on this topic Friday, review Monday and take a test on the information Tuesday of next week.  They may begin reviewing their notes as well as the vocabulary on Quizlet for the test.
